Mission Plans: December
I only have one goal is month and that is to get my passport. scratch that. I am going to do my yearly mix tape as well. Its fun and simple - all you have to do is pick songs from the year that remind you of a good time or you pick the top 10-20 songs of the year and then years later you can see how your tastes have changed or listen to it for nostalgia's sake. I realize that my New Year's Resolution should be : BE MORE PROACTIVE!

Mission Plans: August
The mission plans for august will be the same as July, I realise I should focus on the tasks I find the most difficult because those are the ones that will truly signify personal growth.
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE NEW POLL SECTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE!
PS As some followers may have notices I have changed the format of my blog. The reason I did so was that it no longer felt like me and to be honest it started to look a bit jumbled and too dark and drab for my liking. Maybe its a sign that I'm venturing into new territory, well only time will tell.

1984 - Book Review
This classic dystopian novel centres around Londoner Winston Smith, a frustrated and repressed man who works for the totalitarian government in Oceania in the Nineteen-Eighty-Four. Smith attempts to rebel against the oppression he feels in the society and as a result is eventually exposed as a traitor and his life is jeopardized. I enjoyed reading this novel, it's a classic as the themes do not wavier with time; what is the role of government in society and what is the true nature of history and reality. It is a book one could easily read twice over as the symbolism and richness of the text may not be fully appreciated on first reading as one is to busy getting accustomed to the strange new world the author is laying out in each chapter. All in all, a must read for those that like dystopian literature, interesting books and for those looking to understand what it means when someone uses the phrase "Big Brother is Watching" and the word "Orwellian" in a sentence.

Kings on Fire - Mission #24 - 1/10
This week blew by as I was studying for two exams but I managed to catch a concert the day before one of my exams which is a highly un-Sloane thing to do and thrilling to say the least. The band performing was Kings of Leon, a band composed of three brothers and a cousin from the U.S . I had heard good things from mags like Spin and from Strombo but, I never thought to take a listen till one of my friends was like, "I'm in love" (however this was not so much a reference to her enjoyment of their music more so a reference to the bass player). Anywhoo I listened and I liked. We ended up getting tickets to the sold out show and I personally had never been to a rock concert that hyper or big and the experience was overwhelming in a good way; thousands of people signing together was an amazing spectacle and everyone stood till the end even the people like me in the upper most balcony of the stadium. Safe to say it was memorable. Unfortunately it was a no camera/video show and my friend's camera phone wasn't of much use since we were so far away, still got the memory and that's good enough. I think everyone should go to at least one massive rock concert in their life time.

Mission #61 : Make Mandala - Complete

A mandala is an object from Hindu and Buddhist traditions, which is essentially a diagram of spiritual or personal significance to establish a sacred space and/or place for meditation. They are very unique, some more complicated that others. Please be kind, this my first attempt but, it completes one of my goals. I worked out some math and I should complete one mission per week to succed at my list . However you may see more of these on the site as a find my technique. This mandala has a spiritual Celtic construction because its part of my roots and I thought the design would be good for a beginner. On a side note: this mission helps me to move towards my meditation mission. If you are interested in making your own mandala here is a helpful link http://mandalaoasis.blogspot.com/2008/06/making-your-own-mandalas.html

A Freewheelin' Time
I am need at least one blog post a week so I'd thought since times-they-are- a- crazy (bad joke) with school, I'd write short book review on Suze Rotolo's memoir, A Freewheelin' Time. Rotolo is best know for being linked to Bob Dylan. The book consists of short anecdotes about her time spent in Greenwich Village with Dylan and by herself during the early sixties, with some stories about her time away, travelling to Italy, other parts of Europe and North America. I have to say I enjoyed this book, but I must note I have a strange fascination with the sixties and stuff associated with Dylan, (maybe I was a hippie in a past life) which means I may like it more than the average reader. However Rotolo's choice of stories seem haphazard at times and lack flow but, they are, nonetheless, very interesting stories that seem impossible to have occured in such a short span of time. This memoir reminds readers to do what you love and that one person or action can change your life . I'll end this post with my favourite quote:
"Those who feel they are not part of the mainstream are always somewhere, however. Greenwich Village is calling. Though it is a concept now priced out of its physical space, as a state of mind, it will never be out of bounds, In the end, like finds like: it doesn't matter whether there is a actual neighbourhood or not. A compelling and necessary idea will always find a place to plant itself. The creative spirit finds a way. "(Rotolo 365)

101 Missions/1001 days
Hello, I'm Sloane Peterson. I hope whoever reads this blog and follows me on my journey out of my thick shell, will feel more certain about his or her own path or ask the question "Am I living a life I'm proud of and excited about?" . For about a year or so, I've been having a somewhat of "pre-quarter life crisis" (if such a thing exists). I realise now I'm not living a life I consciously chose. So I sat down and wrote a list of missions that would bring me closer to the passionate life I want to live and the courageous person I want to be.
